Working within the Highways Sector

As a Painting Contractor who has achieved NHSS 19A for the corrosion protection of Ferrous Materials such as steel highways bridges by industrial paint coatings we are able to perform highway maintenance services including:

  • Abrasive Blasting
  • Steel Repairs, and
  • Protective Coatings

The NHSS 19A standard is mandatory for Painting Contractors working for the Highways Agency Suppliers and demonstrates the commitment we have to our clients and workforce in the areas of regulation, environment, quality and safety beyond their existing accreditations.

Our site team is fully ICATS trained (Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme) working constantly with our In-House ICATS trainer.  Our operatives are also trained in working at heights and street works.

Recent contracts have been undertaken for Amey and Henry Boot on several highways bridge projects for Sheffield Highways where we have had to work within possession times, often at night.

Our company’s robust procedures and safe systems of work are externally audited and accredited to a number of standards and demonstrate our commitment to continuous improvement.  We project manage works in high risk environments, such as rail, roads and over rivers and waterways.

We meet the standards required by Network Rail, the Highways Agency and utility companies by achieving:

  • Quality Management System registered to ISO 9001
  • National Highways Standard Sector Scheme 19A, NHSS19A, which works in line with our ISO 9001 accreditation

We are approved contractors for major coating manufacturers for the preparation and coating of the DTp Systems approved by the Highways Agency.

Bridge maintenance painting creates many varied problems and so commands a category of its own.  The biggest obstacle to overcome in this field is that of maintenance.  Road, railways and navigational rivers all have to be kept open to traffic/and the public.

Our Health and Safety Record is excellent which is reflected in the assiduous pre-planning of our works and the quality of performance of our experienced contract managers and fully trained operatives whilst strictly adhering to laid down safety procedures.

We are aware of the environmental aspects within our works and can encapsulate the working area, when required, to protect the local environment and the public.

Due to the bridge location being in a C5 Environment, Wardle Painters were able to offer our client a high preformance, two component, high solid, low VOC epoxy paint system.  The system’s low temperature cure and rapid overcoating properties allowed Wardle Painters to complete the 3 coat  system (320 microns DFT) within the allocated programme.
